A survey of residents state that Beauty for Ashes is the most stable and
supportive living situation they have been in for over 2 years.
Description
·
a
6-family transitional residence for women with or without children,
·
offers a Christ-centered housing program focused on personal &
spiritual growth
·
provides a choice for women who want to live in a faith-based
environment.
Clients are women referred by
-
churches
-
self
-
domestic violence shelters
-
courts and prison
-
emergency shelters
-
Most residents arrive chronically homeless,
living in poverty, unemployed, and without transportation.
Provisions
-
Housing,
including laundry facility, private room, yard, shared kitchen & bath, &
within walking distance--library, grocery, dollar stores, pharmacy,
community center, AA, & other services

Case management
-
Connection with social services & community
resources
-
Emotional Management & Life Skills classes
-
Mental & physical health care facilitated
-
Transportation via tram, ministry van, or
volunteer
-
Improved wardrobe
-
Facilities for babies
-
Women also pursue self improvement through
off-site classes, CD programs, books, mentoring, and participation in
community, social, civic, and cultural events.
Length of Stay
-
6 to 18 months

Based on client progress toward established
goals

Begins with an initial 6 months program

Extended family living agreement is contracted
between client & case manager
Fees:
Program
costs are income-based
Eligibility
-
Female adult head of
household at least 18 or emancipated
-
Have not abused
alcohol or controlled substances for at least two months
-
Are not presently in
an abusive relationship

Agree to
-
Be responsible
for self and children, including food purchase, cooking, laundry,
general housekeeping and child supervision
-
Participate in a
supportive program that includes case management, study groups, life
skills & self-improvement workshops & employment search
-
Secure employment
within first month of stay. Some women may work part-time while
enrolled in an educational program
- Contribute
financially to the housing program based on income
- Live cooperatively
“in community” with current residents

director's discretion

Submit health screening results (TB, HIV, lice) & a state police
check
