Called, Chosen, and Loved: Your Identity in Christ

Written by Missionary Bruce

When we are born into this world, we enter a reality filled with lies about who we are. Because of sin, our understanding has been distorted. We are fighting for our souls daily, and the enemy of our souls is always at work. He inspires lies and often uses people and situations to reinforce them. His goal is to pull us out of alignment with the One who created us to be great.

The world may make you feel as though you are not enough, that you will never be forgiven, that you are a lost cause, or that you can never improve, change, or become your best self. You may have been hurt by a loved one, physically or emotionally, but you are NOT damaged.

Knowing Who You Are and Whose You Are

We must come to a place where we truly understand who we are and whose we are. Learning to love yourself takes time, especially if you have been taught to hate yourself. In moments like that, it can feel as though there is no hope. I am here to gently remind you of a few things that God has already told us about who we are in Him.

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”
Psalms 139:14

In the book of Psalms, David gives us insight into how God sees us while we are being formed. This shows us that when God created you, He did so with care and intention. Just as a craftsman or artist values their work, God takes great care in creating us. He sees us as precious and desires that we grow into all He has called us to be. This is what happens when we allow God to shape and mold our lives.

God’s Plans Are Good

“For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
Jeremiah 29:11

This scripture reminds us that God’s intentions toward us are good. Because of that, we can find rest and peace in Him. God is our loving Father, and He promises to care for us, even in difficult seasons. No matter what you may be facing or even if you have made mistakes or lost your way there is always an opportunity to realign your life with the ways of the Lord.

Chosen and Called Out of Darkness

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
1 Peter 2:9

As you read this, take a moment to recognize how deeply you matter to God. Regardless of where you come from or what you have been through, our Father has lovingly called you out of darkness and into His marvelous light. Because of this, we are invited to live as new creations with renewed minds and transformed lives. We are no longer meant to follow the ways of the world but to step fully into our identity as children of the Most High. We are part of a royal family.

Walking the Narrow Path

My hope is to encourage you to continue walking the narrow path that leads to Christ. While it is not always easy, the Lord has graciously given us His Word, His Holy Spirit, and His people—the body of Christ—to guide and strengthen us along the way. One day, He will welcome us into His Kingdom, a Kingdom that no one can destroy.

He has gone to prepare a place for us. Until that day, let us look toward the higher calling. Let us continue to pray, fast, gather with the saints, and grow into who Christ has lovingly called us to be.

God Bless you all.
